Homemade Orange Vanilla Ice Cream

I have a recipe for you: homemade orange vanilla ice cream! Yum. . .

Summer’s just around the corner, and living in Arizona, the heat is a risin’ and all I can think about is Homemade Orange Vanilla Ice Cream.

As you know, our little farm here supplies us with plenty of fresh goat’s milk. And I’m telling you, homemade ice cream with fresh goat’s milk is to die for! Try it! I dare you!

This recipe uses Wild Orange essential oil, which supplies such an amazing pop of flavor! Essential oils can be used in food, in DIY products or cleaning products, or to support various healthy functions in the body. Later this week I’m going to go over all the ways I use essential oils in my home.

But, let’s get to the important things first — ice cream.

I made this yesterday. It has a great flavor. It was good as soft serve but didn’t freeze well. It hardened up when I put it in the freezer & became very crumbly. Also the essential oil didn’t mix well. It coated my spoon when I ate it & when I froze it had clumps of oil throughout. Any way to avoid this?

Interesting, I’m trying to figure out what went wrong. Did you mix well before adding it to the ice cream maker?

I mixed it all in a 2 quart pitcher & then poured it into my kitchen aid attachment. I’ll give it another try & let you know. Any idea of how to keep it from freezing into a solid lump? I used an airtight container. Maybe I should half the recipe so I won’t have any leftovers. 😉

I recommend using an ice cream maker so it stays soft, and typically with homemade ice cream, you have to eat it the day you make it. You can soften it by adding some egg yolks or coconut milk, but it will tend to harden up when completely frozen:)

I once used lemon essential oil to add flavor to some lemon cookies, they turned out quite nicely.

    Looks yummy!
I watched your farm tour video and you said you milk 2 gallons a day from your goats.
    Do you drink all that?
