Two years ago we decided we wanted to adopt. I was nervous because of my health, but we knew there was at least one more child meant for our family & we also knew adoption was the only way. Even though we have two biological children, after hurting my back and going through 2 surgeries, it’s just too much of a risk for my body to carry a pregnancy.
So, two years ago we started the adoption process. In September of 2011 we were officially certified through a local agency for healthy infants. We waited and waited, but we were never chosen by a birth mother. We had a couple leads, but they all fell through. In February of 2012 we decided to get certified as foster parents through the State. After our 2 months of classes and certification, we were officially foster parents.
Our first foster experience was crazy & our second was just plain sad. After all that drama, in the end we decided that foster care might not be what we want to do. I still wasn’t feeling up to par either, and that was so difficult because I really wanted my health to match my desires!
Luckily, after the summer I started to feel amazingly better on my Traditional Diet and so we contacted the State agency again and told them we’d like to give it another go. This time, we were able to be placed on the Adoption list only. We were told we would be notified of children in foster care who are ready to be adopted.
We waited…let’s see about 2 days.
Then we got a call.
My caseworker said, “Are you sitting down? We’ve got a baby boy I think is just for you.”
I can’t really spill all the information on the interwebz here just yet, but just know that we met the little guy and now we are in the process of doing visits in the hope that we will be able to move towards adoption!
When we told the kids, it’s was a bit of mixed feelings there…
Ethan – “YAY!!! Yes, yes! Can he sleep in my room? What does he look like? Is his skin brown, black or white? Do you think he’ll eat all my toys? Do you think he’ll be able to walk soon? When can he ride a bike?”
Lydia – ***crying*** “I wanted a sister!”
Geez, I guess you can’t please everybody! I tried to explain that you can’t choose what God sends your way and you never know, we may adopt a sister in the future.
But don’t worry, she warmed right up to him when we were able to meet the little guy on Saturday. (Don’t tell her, but I think she’s gonna be a good little mommy to him 😉
So that’s the scoop! Are you excited? We sure are! Well, most of us 😉
